Lovely Little Thieves - Visual Novel

Journal Entry: Fri Jul 18, 2014, 11:09 AM

Heyy there!

Hey everyone! Today 'Lovely Little Thieves' has been announced - this is a visual novel being created by fellow deviant: JesuOtaku and i have had the pleasure to paint the two background artworks for the demo!

The demo is scheduled to release along with a kickstarter on August 15th and you can find full information about the game here: lemmasoft.renai.us/forums/view…

Please check out the official announcement and let me know what you think of the project. If you like what you see then I would be extremely grateful for you to back the kickstarter once it launches in August, if successful i will be creating the rest of the backgrounds for the full game - if JesuOtaku still wants me on board ;)

Thanks guys hope you are all well!

New art soon :)

The next page of my book begins. Looking for work!

Journal Entry: Sun Jun 29, 2014, 5:06 AM

</span>

Heyy there!

Hey guys! I'm back.... I've now completely finished university after 4 years (graduated on Tuesday last week!) and am now hunting for work! Over the next few week i am working on developing my world of KOBO in order to have a good coherent section in my portfolio, and as a treat for myself ; ) So expect more frequent updates around here, mostly centered around KOBO i expect but also please follow me on my facebook page if you really want to see all of my work - there are often sketches that i only post there and it seems the best format to communicate with you guys. But i will make sure to keep alive on here as best i can.

Thanks and welcome to all my new followers and for every favourite and comment i have received over the past few months - it's been so hectic that staying in touch on here has been tough.

Lastly, i am now having to work full time as a freelance artist until i am able to find work in a studio. I would extremely appreciate any help in this area, if you know anyone that needs an artist for contract / commission work or know of any job opportunities at studios, i would be extremely grateful if you can let me know. :)  If you are interested in commissioning me please send me a note or an email to Jack.alexander@live.com and we can discuss.

Feel free to send me a message, i'm always up for a chat!

Facebook page and updates

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 17, 2014, 2:49 PM

Heyy there!

Facebook Art Page I have started a new art page on Facebook, feel free to follow me there in order to get more frequent updates. :)

Hey guys! I am back! Sorry for my absence, i have completely underestimated finding work in the game / film industry. It is HARD. I have had a lot of great response yet still no solid job offers mostly due to most studios not having the funds right now. I am drawing near to graduation (May 2014) and am still looking for work so if anyone is hiring or can help spread the word i would appreciate any help that can be offered and will offer some sort of reward for anyone who does help.

Thank you to everyone who helped with my tutorial suggestions. I have started a few tutorials over the months since my last journals and unfortunately i've come to realise that most things i would be teaching has already been covered in much better detail that i could do myself. So i have come to the decision that instead i will likely just post any tutorials that i find useful each month or so, so that you guys can check them out instead and we can learn together.

However i would like to do more step-by-step beakdowns of my artwork and possibly in video or livesteam form, as i feel this could be more beneficial and is easier for me to manage.

If you guys are interested in this please let me know or feel free to suggest any images or subject matter you would like me to concept / paint with a breakdown and i will do my best to get this done.

I am hoping to make the first tutorial sometime very soon, i have not yet decided exactly what it will cover however you can find the current suggestions below. If you have any more ideas please let me know and i will add them to the list and consider them for this or future tutorials :]

How can i get to know you? It's time to give back.

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 4, 2013, 4:19 AM

Heyy there!

Over the past few weeks i have reached over 1,000 watchers (THANK YOU!) which is amazing, i realise that the majority of these most likely aren't active any more however it still means a lot to me.

I have been very busy over the past year or two with lots of changes happening and therefore haven't been putting much time into Deviantart apart from the odd journal update and deviation upload.

However i would like that to change. I want to get to know you guys better and to give something back in any way that i can, i don't like this feeling of just being someone that posts work and gets a favorite or a view and then sits in the shadows until the next one.

Here is where you come in! How can we get this to work?  Are you even interested in this? I strongly believe in the phrase 'sharing is caring' so here is what i propose;

Giving Back

:bulletorange: Monthly tutorials (video or step-by-step) covering any subject area that you suggest, as best that i can. This could be voted on via a poll at a set date each month?

:bulletorange: Weekly / Monthly watcher features? Not entirely sure how this would work, any suggestions?

:bulletorange: Kiriban? I'm not usually very good at these as i feel i can't put enough time in to give back something good enough, but if enough of you guys are interested we can give it a shot.

:bulletorange: Art Book Recommendations? I have a slight addiction to art books and have quite a few on my shelves so i could show examples and suggestions to those interested, as i find them to be quite a powerful source of inspiring, others may find it useful.

Let's talk!

:bulletorange: If you wonder how i do anything in my art or are someone who is new to drawing please send me a message and let's talk! I'm always completely happy to give advice and to do my best to help wherever i can.

:bulletorange: Or even if you would just like to talk please go ahead and message me, i'd love to get to know you guys.

Let me know what you think

That's all i can think of for now but if you have any suggestions feel free to let me know. Also please respond to this journal, i need to know if you guys are interested in order to do any of this. Even if you think it's a stupid idea, please give me a kick : )

Thanks again everyone,

Hope that you are all well!

:highfive:

DD + Internship

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 24, 2013, 12:54 AM

Heyy everyone,

On Saturday i recieved my 3rd DD! Thanks a lot to whoever suggested it and to PolyMune for featuring!

Also a big :highfive: and welcome to my new watchers,i really appreciate everyones support - i'm now at over 1,000 watchers which is insane :D

I may do some sort of Kiriban for 50k if you are interested, i've tried it before years ago and failed because i was too busy, but i'd like to do something to give back so let me know if this is something you are interested in :)

I am currently 3 weeks into a 2 month internship at SuperMassive Games. So far it has been very very cool, i'm not able to discuss or show anything i'm doing but it's a great experience and will hopefully give me some more knowledge to produce better work. It does mean that i don't get too much time to paint for myself so i'm sorry if i'm quiet for a while but i'll do my best to post something shortly.

Lastly, during spare time i've been playing The Last of Us, i'm only about 50% in so far but dannnnng it's stunning, i love it - such a massive inspiration, so expect related themes in any of my next artwork :3

Thanks everyone,

Hope that you are all well!

A Journey of Intrigue Update

Journal Entry: Thu Mar 28, 2013, 9:34 AM

Heyy everyone,

If you are unsure of what 'A Journey of Intrigue' is, it is the name of my 2nd year university group project to create a level in UDK, you can find more information in my previous journal.

I am in charge mostly for art direction but have also produced all of the textures and am helping with asset placement. We have been hard at work and are at the halfway point, Above this journal is a video of how the level looks currently o you can follow this link: www.youtube.com/watch?feature=…

Unfortunately i've not had the time to do any more art whilst working on this project (aside from some client work that i'm currently unable to show) so i apologise for being so quiet, i should hopefully be able to get time to concept new areas for the level over Easter, i shall post them here and on my blog if i get the chance.

We are still working on placing the assets, some of them don't work so will be replaced and there are many more to be added, however I hope that you enjoy our level so far and would love for you to leave any feedback or comments :)

A Journey of Intrigue

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 14, 2013, 1:23 PM

Heyy everyone,

I have started a new group project at uni, the last one of my 2nd year (my second... 2nd year..)  and this time will be making a playable game. I'm mostly tasked for the concepting side and art directing aswell as chipping in with 3D and probably texturing everything (boooo). So this is where my time will be spent over the next 3 months, however i will be posting everything here and also on my blog aswell as the dev blog (links below) and will hopefully still be continuing weekly'ish concepts too that will be posted here if good enough.

The game is going to be focused on the visual and audio experience similiar to Dear Esther. It is inspired by and incorporates the music of the band 'DepthCharge' who are releasing their first EP soon, they create very interesting experimental instrumental music and are working with them to come with hopefully a really interesting experience.

That's all i can really say for now as it's still early days.

However -- we need to pitch this idea to our lecturers aswell as Steve Goss (Supermassive Games) and James Brooksby (CEO of Born Ready Games) to gain feedback before being able to get started. So in order to help the pitch i have taken some of my current rough sketches and created a little animation in After Effects to give a better visual expample of the games setting.

You can find the video via the link below or the embedded video above.

If you are interested please leave comments and check back regularly :)

Rydan Workshop Feature

Journal Entry: Sun Oct 28, 2012, 4:23 AM

Heyy everyone,

I have been featured in a small article on the Rydan Workshop website as their Intro to Digital Concept Art course will be starting up again near the end of November so anyone who's interested should check it out. I attended in 2011 and also assisted 2-3 of their classes as a teaching assistant, feel free to let me know if you would like any information about it. :)

If you register before 5th November you will receive a $50 discount as an early bird.

Also i would like to thank everyone for the support on my new artwork:
Guardian Tree by JackEavesArt
It's been Favorited almost 200 times in the last 2 days which is a lot for me and has received some very kind comments, so thank you to everyone! I really do appreciate the support.

Above you can find a timelapse video of the creation of that artwork, however it's not that helpful... i need to get better at recording myself paint..

Hope that you are all well!

Update, no membership, friend feature

Journal Entry: Wed Sep 12, 2012, 1:32 PM

Heyy everyone,

:bulletblue: Firstly, thank you to all of my new watchers! I apologies for being quite inactive recently, i've been very busy painting however it's all been under NDA so i'm unable to share it.
Currently i am working on a series of sketch commissions for the manual for a game called Bushido (www.bushido-thegame.com/). Some of these are, i think, some of my best paintings yet - so i cannot wait to be able to share them with you guys. I promise that i will do some personal work asap once the commissions are over with.

:bulletblue: As you may have noticed, my page looks very bare and lonely at the moment. My membership as ran out and i won't be able to renew it for a little while - but just so that you know, i am still alive! : )

:bulletblue: I would like to feature my closest friend here, i have spoken about her before so a few of you may already know her, however i really feel that she deserves a lot more attention so i'd like to mention her here. She is an artist and photographer (and can also write -amazing- stories, though she is yet to post them). Most of her recent work is photography however if you are interested in cute doodles and photo-manipulations you really should dive into her gallery (and even check out her art account PurplePopcornn) Here are a few of my favorites:

I would really appreciate it if you could check her out, fave and maybe even comment if you like her work - if you aren't interested in her style then please i honestly recommend that you pop back to her gallery in the future, she has such an amazingly creative imagination just waiting to be let out, she inspires me the most out of anything. Thank you guys! I will have new things soon, i promise.

If you like her work please let her know - and if you let me know, maybe i'll make a feature for you guys soon : )

Hope that you are all well!

New Beginnings

Journal Entry: Wed May 9, 2012, 9:57 AM

Hey Guys,

Last week i attended an interview for the Disney Interactive Studios Internship, which i was ecstatic about! Unfortunately today i found out that i haven't been accepted, however i was one of 8 to receive an interview out of the 100 that applied, so that's a great achievement in its self. : D

This also means that i will now be going ahead with the transfer to UCA Farnham on their computer game arts course! I will be going straight into the 2nd year (retaking it, as i'm currently doing 2nd year here... boo) so if anyone is on the course, or knows someone who is - let me know : )

Lastly i'm currently working on my final major project to finish off this year. It's mostly concept art work for a fictional 'game' but really I'm just developing the world of my Kobo character some more. I will upload what i'm working on soon once i've had the time to make the sketches presentable lol.

Hope you're all good,
:highfive:

Deadline is the 30th (friday) so hopefully it will arrive in time.

I think i have a good shot of getting an interview, but really no idea if i'll get the place, there are only 2 available.

I'd love to know what you think : D

Will be starting my Final Major Project very soon so i should have a more steady stream of work soon... i will be developing the world around my character 'Kobo' more. It will be fun!

Hope your all good,

Imperfect symmetry

Journal Entry: Mon Mar 12, 2012, 3:10 PM

Hey Guys,

All i seem to be doing is promoting things least - BUT i think you'll like this one!

Jessica, A.K.A JessicaWong, is a good friend of mine and she has just uploaded a new artwork, she doesn't do much digital work at the moment, but i was so impressed with her latest photo manipulation that i really wanted to share it, i think she deserves so much more attention that she's getting.

I would really appreciate it if you could take a look - and if you like, why not fave or watch her : )

Imperfect symmetry by JessicaWong

I will be updating soon with lots of new artwork so stay tuned! I am applying for an Internship at Disney here in the UK and i am currently working on my pitch so i will update as soon as it's done.

It's all very different to my usual work as it is based around the IP 'UP' by Pixar, so hopefully you'll find it interesting.

Thanks again,

Hope your all good,

Kobo's Journey Animatic - watch now!

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 13, 2012, 1:35 PM

Hey Guys,

I've been working on this for the past month - it is an animatic that you can mildly interact with through choices at the end of each clip (though these weren't the main focus for me).

I'd very much appreciate if you could watch it - it's embedded above but remember you MUST HAVE ANNOTATIONS ENABLED.

Thanks!

My 2nd DD!

Journal Entry: Wed Feb 1, 2012, 10:21 AM

Hey Guys,

Holy shit. I got another DD! :D
The Hidden City v3 by JackEavesArt

I received over 110 watchers yesterday... that blows my mind, thank you to ALL of my watchers, i really appreciate the support! and welcome to all of my new watchers, i very much hope that you will continue to enjoy my work.

I am working on an animation / storyboard thing (you can see a teaser in the video above), though it wont be as animated as that. I realized i have crap all time so most of it is going to be more of a storyboard, but hopefully still interesting.

Some teaser clips were posted to my blog www.artofjackeaves.tumblr.com if you are interested.

Also i'm applying for an internship at Disney Interactive Studios very soon, they have brief which you must complete in order to apply so expect a lot of Disney themed artwork over the next month or 2. But i'm going to be throwing a lot of my own style into it so please don't be alarmed if you don't like Disney, hopefullly you will still enjoy the artwork.

Thanks again to everyone that follows me, old and new.

Hope your all good,

'We Miss You' Contest

Journal Entry: Fri Jan 20, 2012, 12:31 PM

Hey Guys,

Sorry for yet another promotion type journal.... i will have artwork soon...
PutYourBraveFaceOn asked me to promote her contest and as she is a long time supporter of mine and all round nice person i thought i would do so, check it out!

"We Miss You" is a yearly contest held by *PutYourBraveFaceOn (:iconputyourbravefaceon:) and *Alligatorr (:iconalligatorr:) made for the ones dear to us that passed away. It is a tribute to those who changed our lives in one way or another; it is a message, a way of coping with our loss, of saying thanks and of expressing our deepest feelings through art; it is an unburied or unspoken secret, the song of our hearts, the unseen tear, a piece of our broken soul. It is everything you want it to be, as long as it is related to a dead person or an animal companion. I know that "dead" may seem like a harsh word and we usually try to avoid it, because it hurts too much by making it all too real, but in the past "We Miss You" Contests not all the people got the point otherwise.

Hope your all good,
:highfive:

Wacom Cintiq 12WX SELLING + animation

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 17, 2012, 4:40 PM

[Check out my start to an animation / animatic that i'm doing for my narrative project. Please don't take note of the timing, i just threw together what i've done so far to see how it looks. Video is above ^^^^^]

Hey Guys,

I am selling my Wacom Cintiq 12WX!

www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/wac…

It's in full working order (some cosmetic damage but you can read about that in the link, it's nothing major) and i will be selling it for £500 or around that.

It would be best to sell to someone in the UK but if you are outside of the UK and interested then please let me know - for anyone outisde of the UK (or who is unable to collect it in person) payment must be made before hand via Pay Pal and you will be responsible for the shipping / postage as the main reason for me selling the Wacom is that money is tight (as always..)

Hmm sorry, it seems that all of my journals lately seem to be pleas or some sort of advertisement... i promise there will be more art soon :<

It would be great for you guys to follow my tumblr blog (www.artofjackeaves.tumblr.com) as i update that almost daily with new sketches and WIPS... i'm mostly only updated finished work onto my DA now to avoid clutter.
It would be good to see you guys there :)

Hope your all good,

2012

Journal Entry: Sat Dec 31, 2011, 4:13 PM

Hey Guys,

2011 was a pretty good year for me, at least for the most part. One thing that sums up what i have learned in 2011 is that; It's fine to ask for help or to confide in others - but if you really want something in life, it's down to you and only you, to reach out and grab it - put all of your time and effort into it - and enjoy it, then you will get what you really want eventually. But if you sit around waiting for it to appear, you'll never get anywhere.

I know that this is what i'll be doing - best of luck to everyone who has a dream - may 2012 be the year that you kick it's ass and take control.

And thank you to all of my new and old watchers - Its amazing how much support you've given me this year and i really appreciate it so much! I hope that you are all well and want to wish you all the best for the new Year, may you all achieve any goals or dreams that you are chasing. Thank you thank you thank you <3

Happy New year! : )

Hope your all good,
:highfive:
